Our History

The British Columbia Shellfish Growers’ Association (BCSGA) has been the voice of BC’s shellfish farming industry for almost 60 years.

  • 1948 - The BC Oyster Grower's Association is formed.

  • 1990 - The BC Oyster Grower's Association changes its name to the BC Shellfish Growers' Association.

  • The Association is a non-profit organization that represents approximately 70% of shellfish farmers in British Columbia as well as processors, industry suppliers and service providers related to the industry.

  • We are funded solely through membership fees and project revenue.

The BC Shellfish Growers Association acknowledges that we and our members largely operate on unceded Indigenous territories across the land now known as British Columbia. Many of our farms are located near archaeological sites, including clam gardens and oyster beds that were cultivated by indigenous peoples. We are grateful for their stewardship of this coast.
