This informational pamphlet outlines the service WEST SAMPSON Aquaculture provides in the sub tidal geo-duck/sea cucumber aquaculture industry.

We are excited to offer the customer a start to finish service, tailored to the specific needs of sub tidal geo-duck/sea cucumber aquaculture. WEST SAMPSON AQUACULTURE is one of a select few companies inBritish Columbiaexperienced in all aspects of sub tidal Geo-duck/sea cucumber aquaculture, our personnel being involved with the industry for over 10 years.

WSA owns and operates all equipment used to provide our service, our aim being to install a truly turnkey operation that adheres to all provincial & federal government regulations while requiring very little support from you, the customer. We are fully experience in setting up successful sub tidal geo-duck/sea cucumber tenures, and continue to develop innovative techniques and equipment used in said industry.

Geo-duck/Sea Cucumber Aquaculture:

-Surveys and Grids; First step in developing a site, is the installation of underwater grid lines and anchor blocks as per DFO standards. We use GPS coordinates supplied by the customer to outline the prospective lease area. The area can then be surveyed by our experienced personnel to find the most suitable depth and configuration to seed into, as well as report existing biomass available for purging. Video footage is available upon request.

-Purging; if regulations and laws permit, we will purge any existing biomass from the seeding area.

-Coverage; Special underwater covering is needed for the juvenile seed to avoid predation. We have developed an innovative covering system that eliminates the need of expensive material and bulky installation systems. Substantially reducing overall system installation costs, this system proves the covering will remain in place during any natural occurrence.

-Maintenance; Due to unforeseen problems caused by boats or debris, and also to remove any growth inhibiting water flow, it is recommended to do a thorough maintenance schedule on the coverings and grid lines for the duration of installation.

Underwater servicing of oyster rafts, long lines, geoduck beds etc.

Pipeline/Cable Installation and Repair

The process of laying cable or assembling pipeline at a desired depth. Normally this depth is below the substrate and must be trenched in with a hand dredge .

Harvesting/Restocking

We specialize in harvesting: geoduck, oysters, scallops, sea cucumbers and sea urchins. Restock geoduck on private leases only. Prices negotiable and subject to market fluctuation.

We have one certified 100 tonne captain with 25 years of marine/ aquaculture experience

Along with one 15 tonne captain with 20 years of marine/aquaculture experience

Divers

A 1989 graduate from theCanadianUnderwaterTrainingCenter. Under water welding and saturation diving. Including aNorth SeaTicket. (20+ years seafood harvesting)

A 2000 graduate from Intratek Diving. (17 years seafood harvesting/shellfish aquaculture)

A 1992 Seneca Collage dive student. (22 years seafood harvesting)

All divers are fully qualified and meet CANADIAN WCB standards. (Medical and dive certification certificates available upon request)

This is an operating long line oyster farm in Lemmons Inlet. The site is the closest farm to the town of Tofino or Opitsaht First Nations Village.
